Vivien Hoffman is an artist and interior designer working from her studio in Southbourne on Dorset’s south coast. Her home is decorated with a vibrant flair which acts as a backdrop to her artwork. She is also the artist in residence at the award-winning Chaplin’s & the Cellar Bar together with its garden and Modern Times Restaurant, where her original decor imparts a striking ambience and joie de vivre.
From early childhood Vivien has felt compelled to paint the landscape. Her aim is to combine just the right quantities of pattern, flow and colour to capture the essence and appeal of a place. She invites the viewer to step into her visual adventure, moving along winding pathways and streams, pausing here and there to appreciate an attractive bridge or some inviting vista glimpsed through the trees.
In her designs for tea towels (also available as prints) she selects the most pleasing or culturally significant scenes of a town, such as Christchurch or Poole, and interweaves them in a joyful montage. To this, she adds her signature hand-lettering in order to give a lively sense of place and meaning to each product in her Joie de Viv range. Together with over 60 original greetings cards, Vivien’s tea towels and tote bags are available to buy in shops from Avon Beach to Poole.
